Bee Awareness offers the following programs to engage students in embracing bees and pollinators of all kinds. We facilitate understanding and awareness of these incredibly important keystone species, their function in nature and the challenges they face as well as how to help them. We do this through fun, inspiring and interactive learning processes including games, stories, crafts, and of course, live observation beehives!
Day Hive Program
This is a 1-hour long presentation with a one frame transportable fully sealed observation hive. It includes an introduction, a game, time to observe the bees and a story. We can bring this hive and program just about anywhere, parks, classrooms, daycares, afterschool programs, camps…
Please view the extended version of our education video (25:48) to get a better idea of the topics presented to students.
There are 2 options for delivery of this program:
- Indoors with a PowerPoint presentation and game (suitable for grades 1 and up)
- Outdoors with a running game (suitable for any age from 3 up!)
Don’t let distance or Covid-19 restrictions stop you from getting the buzz about bees- we have a zoom option for you! Our 45 min program can successfully engage students from ages 6 and up with pictures, puppets, story time, and loads of enthusiasm.
Host a Hive
This program is available to schools who are interested in having a live observation hive installed for a full year to love and tend. It includes the installation (minus the cost of plexiglass window insert) of a 2-3 frame observation honey bee hive, an hour-long teacher tutorial on hive care and maintenance and a one hour-long interactive in-class presentation for students.
BAS Extended Host a Hive
This is our most extensive program, available to a select few schools who would like to more fully embrace the incredible potential and impact of learning with the bees. It includes the installation (minus the cost of plexiglass window insert) of a 2-3 frame observation honey bee hive, an hour-long teacher tutorial on hive care and maintenance, and three ½ day programs spaced throughout the year. We take students on a seasonal tour of the bees with this program extracting honey in the fall, making lip balm in the winter and seed bombs in the spring.
Wild Voices CBEEN
Our extended day hive program- a ½ day or full day outdoor learning experience with the bees is now available for members of the Columbia Basin Environmental Education Network’s (CBEEN) Wild Voices program. Memberships are available for $20/year to educators and include covering the cost of one of their incredible programs facilitated by local experts, including the Bee Awareness program, “What’s the Buzz”.
